Kernel Imperial Brown Stout

The Kernel IPA Galaxy has barley malted another 1856 recipe from the Barclay Perkins archive. The Imperial Brown Stouts evolved into Russian Imperial Stouts, and this particular recipe evolved into the Courage RIS, which is notable for two reasons: a) it was an excellent beer, and b) it was produced until 1992, as the only surviving link to a certain brewing tradition that was huge in London, and made London famous, for over 200 years. And, of course, a custom that is now extinct. And the beer is black rather than brown.

A deep black, And gentle, round, and smooth Aromas of coffee and chocolate, followed by dark fruits, dried fruits, raisin, fig, and prune. Plum, too. Some tart fruit. Throughout the extended finish, hop bitterness is intertwined with roast and char.
